Rumsey’s is an independent family business, a much-loved part of our local high street and the proud winners of Buckinghamshire Business Awards Family Business of the Year 2021, finalists in the Oxfordshire Business Awards Retail Award 2022 and recipients of a Highly Commended in the Great British Food Awards 2021.

Rumsey’s believe that chocolate is something special. All their chocolates are made by hand in small batches from their chocolateries in Thame and Wendover. You can see this for yourself when you visit, or even better take part in one of their special Taste of Thame workshops. Their team of chocolate chefs have all been personally trained by Master Chocolatier and founder, Nigel Rumsey, who began creating his exquisite range of award-winning chocolates in 1991.

On Valentine’s day 2004 Nigel and his wife Mary opened Rumsey’s Chocolaterie in Wendover, followed in July 2007 by the opening of Rumsey’s Chocolaterie in Thame. Daughter-in-law Kate Rumsey joined the family business in 2016, and took the reins in April 2022 on the retirement of Mary and Nigel.

The business brings so much joy to people. From watching the chocolates being made through the window to people (of all ages!) enjoying tasting them. Their passion for fine patisserie and hand-crafted chocolates of the very top quality thrives in their chocolaterie, which offers a charming atmosphere, friendly service and quality products. Rumsey’s sources its milk and cream – a key element of not only coffees but also hot chocolates, ice creams and chocolate ganaches – locally from Lacey’s, and their eggs from The Egg Ladies at Thame Charter Market.
